Who is August?
August is the steadfast protector of the Sacred City of Adoulin, serving as a shield for its people during the events of the Seekers of Adoulin expansion. A towering Hume knight clad in heavy armor, he is widely regarded as one of the most capable warriors in all of Ulbuka. His unwavering sense of duty and immense physical strength make him the ideal guardian, and those qualities carry over perfectly into his role as a Trust.

Key Abilities
- Flash — A spell that generates a large amount of "enmity" (threat), forcing the enemy to focus its attacks on August instead of you. This is the bread and butter of tanking in FFXI: if the tank has the most enmity, the monster hits the tank and leaves everyone else alone.
- Cure — A healing spell that restores HP. August can heal himself to stay alive longer, reducing the burden on your healer. Paladins are unique among tanks in FFXI because they can cast white magic.
- Holy II — An offensive light-element spell that also generates enmity. This helps August keep the enemy's attention while dealing respectable damage at the same time.
- Sentinel — A defensive ability that dramatically reduces the physical damage August takes for a short time. Think of it as a panic button when damage gets heavy.
- Shield Bash — August slams his shield into the enemy, briefly stunning it and interrupting whatever it was doing. Very useful against enemies that cast dangerous spells or use powerful abilities.
- Daybreak Shield — August's equipment includes the Daybreak shield, which adds light-element damage to his attacks. This is a nice bonus that adds extra damage output on top of his already strong tanking.
When to Use August
August is the best tank Trust in the game, period. His massive HP pool means he can absorb enormous amounts of punishment, and his combination of Flash, Cure, and Sentinel keeps him alive through fights that would drop lesser tanks. He works in virtually every situation, from casual leveling to the toughest endgame content.
Pair August with a dedicated healer Trust like Apururu or Yoran-Oran. While August can heal himself, he cannot keep up with heavy damage on his own. A healer backing him up lets him focus on holding the enemy's attention. If you only ever use one tank Trust, make it August.
Tips for New Players
- Always bring a healer when using August. He holds hate (enemy attention) extremely well, but he needs outside healing to survive the hardest fights.
- August is available from Login Points Set 5 for 100 points. Login Points are earned just by logging in each day, so save up and grab him as soon as you can.
- If you are new to FFXI, a solid starting party is: You (any damage job) + August (tank) + a healer Trust + two damage Trusts. This covers all the basics.
