Your NPC party members, explained
Trusts are NPC companions you can summon to fight alongside you. They fill party roles just like real players — tanking, healing, dealing damage, and casting buffs. You can have up to 5 trusts active at once (filling a full party of 6 with you).
Each trust has a specific job and role. Some trusts have upgraded II versions that are stronger or behave differently. Building a good trust party is the key to soloing most content in FFXI.
Scythe has 122 trusts total. Many come from story missions, nation quests, and Records of Eminence. Others can be purchased with Login Points from the Greeter Moogle. This guide covers every single one.
Tanks hold the enemy's attention so your party doesn't get hit. They use abilities like Provoke, Flash, and high defense to keep hate.
Temple Knight captain. One of the first tanks you can get. Cure and standard PLD abilities. Great starter tank.
Crown Prince of San d'Oria. Paladin tank from the nation quests. Solid early-game option.
Royal Knight of San d'Oria. Basic PLD tank. Has a Wings of the Goddess variant (Excenmille S).
Royal Knight. Another San d'Orian PLD. Straightforward tanking.
Yagudo ninja. Evasion tank using Utsusemi shadow images to avoid damage entirely. Different tanking style from Paladins.
Enhanced Unity Concord version of Prince Pieuje. Stronger PLD tank with improved AI.
Crystal War era Excenmille. PLD tank with period-appropriate abilities.
The Hume Ark Angel. PLD/WAR tank with offensive capability. Special unlock from Zilart content.
King of Adoulin. Paladin tank obtained from Adoulin missions.
The best tank trust in the game. Extremely high defense, uses Flash, Holy II, Cure, and has massive HP. Your go-to tank for any content.
Solid Paladin tank with Cure, Holy, and Fast Cast. One of the Serpent Generals. Reliable for early-to-mid content.
Magic-focused tank using Rune Fencer. Vallation absorbs magic damage. Great against caster enemies where Paladin defense isn't enough.
Temple Knight of San d'Oria. Hybrid PLD/WAR tank with both defensive and offensive abilities. Decent all-rounder.
Royal Knight commander. Classic Paladin with Cure, Flash, and Holy. Straightforward tank that does the job.
Nashmeira's automaton, configured as a PLD-style tank. Uses Provoke and Flash. Unique in that it's a mechanical puppet, not a person.
Healers keep the party alive with Cure spells, status removal, and sometimes Raise to revive fallen members. You always want at least one.
One of the very first healers you can get. Tarutaru WHM with basic Cures and buffs. Great starter pick.
Kupipi's twin sister. Another early WHM healer. Pick either one as your first healer.
Mithra WHM from the TOAU storyline. Solid healer obtained from Aht Urhgan missions.
One of the BEST healers in the game alongside Nashmeira II. Enhanced Unity Concord version with excellent cure potency and Raise.
Crystal War healer from WOTG. Has an upgrade (Ingrid II) that shifts to melee DD. Base version is a dedicated healer.
A special event WHM healer. Straightforward Cure-focused healing.
Empress of Aht Urhgan. Melee/healer hybrid. Upgrade to Nashmeira II (pure healer) is much stronger.
The Elvaan Ark Angel. WHM healer from Zilart content. Special unlock.
Enhanced dual-role caster. Can heal and nuke. Flexible Unity Concord option.
The best healer trust. Afflatus Solace boosts her Cures, she prioritizes healing, and has Raise. Upgrade from base Nashmeira who was a melee hybrid.
Windurst's greatest summoner in the story, but functions as a WHM trust. Cures, bar-element spells, and basic buffs. A solid starter healer available in Set 1.
The legendary engineer, here as a Scholar healer. Light Arts mode gives him Cure, Regen, and Raise. A good alternative healer with Scholar's versatility.
Switches between Light Arts (healing) and Dark Arts (nuking). Flexible Scholar who can heal when needed and deal magic damage when the party is healthy.
Despite being a PLD, this trust functions primarily as a healer. Has Cure and Raise. An unusual pick but works in a pinch.
Dancer healer who uses Waltzes (TP-based heals) instead of MP. Sambas give the party drain effects on melee hits. Great for sustained fights where MP runs low.
Another Dancer healer/support. Uses Sambas and Waltzes to sustain the party. The famous Star Onion Brigade dancer from the Wings era.
Primarily a melee DD, but has emergency Cures. Not a main healer — think of her as a damage dealer who can spot-heal when things get rough.
Support trusts buff your party with Haste, Refresh, Protect, Shell, auras, and Corsair rolls. They multiply everyone else's effectiveness.
Bard who buffs with songs: March (Haste), Madrigal (Accuracy), Minuet (Attack). One of the first supports you can get.

Nashmeira's other automaton. Functions as a RDM support with Haste, Refresh, and nukes. Pairs perfectly with Nashmeira II for a healer+buffer combo.
Cardian automaton from Windurst. Primary buffer with RDM spells. Haste, Refresh, and healing backup. Reliable all-around support.
Corsair who rolls party buffs (Phantom Roll). Rolls give percentage-based boosts to stats, attack, magic, and more. Unique buff source that stacks with everything.
Another Corsair with rolls, plus Quick Draw ranged attacks. More offense-oriented than Qultada. The legendary pirate king from the TOAU story.
Leader of Windurst. Provides an Indi-Acumen aura (magic attack bonus) to nearby allies. Passive support — she doesn't fight, just boosts. Unkillable.
Geomancer who provides a Regen aura to nearby allies. Passive healing that ticks constantly. Stack her with a real healer for extra safety.
Provides a Refresh aura (MP regen) to nearby allies. Essential for mage-heavy parties. Pair with Sakura for Regen + Refresh passive healing.
Red Mage who specializes in Enspell buffs (elemental damage on melee swings). Good for melee-heavy parties. Also provides standard RDM buffs.
Goblin Red Mage with ranged attacks. Provides RDM support buffs. A quirky choice — functional but not top-tier compared to Koru-Moru.

The Salaheem's Sentinels president. Uses Focus, Dodge, and Counterstance for evasion-based melee with her signature weapon Peacebreaker.
Leader of the Tenshodo. Sneak Attack and Bully for burst damage. A straightforward Thief damage dealer.
Dual-wielding THF/NIN. High attack speed from dual wield. Good sustained damage from the constant stream of hits.
The emperor of Aht Urhgan himself. Samurai with Hasso and Meditate for fast TP gain and powerful weapon skills. A strong melee pick.
Adoulin Samurai who excels at opening skillchains. Pair with another DD who can close the chain for massive burst damage.
Samurai who closes skillchains instead of opening them. Pairs well with Mildaurion or any trust that opens chains. Strong finisher.
Upgraded Tenzen, the katana-wielding hero of Promathia. Ranged capability with Samurai skills. Better AI and damage than the base version.
Hybrid SAM/PLD who uses Hasso and Third Eye plus has some healing. An unusual mix that can off-tank in emergencies.

Beastmaster who uses Feral Howl. A niche melee pick with some utility from BST abilities.
Upgraded Ingrid who shifted from healer to melee DD/nuker. Despite the WHM job, she prioritizes damage. An unexpected powerhouse.
Fights in beast form. Immune to most buffs but deals solid damage. A unique trust that doesn't play by normal rules.
Physical melee with some magic burst capability. A hybrid damage dealer from the Adoulin storyline.
A Goobbue creature trust. High HP with counter attacks. Not a person — literally a plant monster fighting for you. Fun and tanky.
A Mandragora creature trust. Small but scrappy with counter attacks. Another creature trust like Abenzio.
Minimal combat ability. More of a lore/collection trust than a combat pick. Use other DDs for serious content.
A plant creature that casts Earth-element magic. Unusual trust with niche appeal. Not a top damage pick.
Magic DDs cast offensive spells. They excel at magic bursting (casting right after a skillchain for bonus damage) and AoE situations.
FFXI's most iconic character. The base version — a powerful BLM nuker. Has an upgrade: Shantotto II (Login Points).
Minister of the Orastery. Another early BLM nuker from Windurst nation quests.
Mamool Ja black mage. BLM nuker from TOAU missions.
The Mithra Ark Angel. BLM/RDM nuker. Special Zilart unlock.
