Who is Mnejing?

Mnejing is not a person at all, but a combat automaton — a mechanical puppet built for battle. It belongs to Nashmeira, the Empress of Aht Urhgan, and serves as her personal protector during the Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion. Mnejing is one of a pair of automatons; the other is Ovjang, a smaller support puppet. Together they guard the empress through the dangers of the storyline.

Key Abilities

• Provoke — A classic tanking ability that forces the enemy to focus its attacks on Mnejing. "Provoke" generates a large burst of enmity (threat), which is the game's system for deciding who the enemy attacks. The character with the most enmity gets hit.
• Flash — A spell that blinds the enemy and generates enmity, just like a Paladin would use. Between Provoke and Flash, Mnejing has the two most important tools for keeping enemies focused on itself.
• Automaton Frame — Mnejing is configured with a Paladin-style tank frame, giving it high defense and HP. Automatons in FFXI are modular; their capabilities depend on how they are built. Mnejing's frame is optimized for taking hits.

When to Use Mnejing

Mnejing is a unique and flavorful tank option. As an automaton rather than a living character, it brings something different to your party composition. Its tanking toolkit is functional, with Provoke and Flash covering the essentials, and its mechanical nature gives it solid baseline durability.

Mnejing pairs thematically with Ovjang, the other automaton Trust, if you want an all-mechanical duo in your party. In practical terms, Mnejing is a serviceable tank for leveling and casual content but does not match the staying power of top-tier tanks like August. Use Mnejing if you enjoy the character or want variety in your Trust lineup.

Tips for New Players

• Do not be confused by the "Puppetmaster" job label. In FFXI, Puppetmaster is a job where a player controls an automaton puppet. Mnejing IS the automaton, fighting directly as your Trust rather than being controlled by a puppet master.
• If you summon both Mnejing and Ovjang, you get an interesting thematic party, but it uses two Trust slots. Make sure you still have room for a healer.
• Mnejing is available from Login Points Set 3, making it a mid-rotation option. If you need a tank before Set 5 (August) comes around, Mnejing can fill the gap.
• Like all tanks, Mnejing benefits enormously from having a healer Trust in the party. A tank that goes down means the enemy starts attacking everyone else.
