Shantotto II

Who is Shantotto II?

Shantotto is arguably the most iconic character in all of FFXI. A tiny Tarutaru with an ego the size of a continent, she is the most powerful Black Mage in Windurst and possibly all of Vana'diel. This upgraded version of Shantotto is a pure offensive powerhouse who rains elemental destruction on anything foolish enough to stand in her way.

Key Abilities

• Elemental Nukes — Black Mages cast destructive elemental spells like Fire, Blizzard, Thunder, Aero, Stone, and Water. "Nuking" is the term FFXI players use for casting big damage spells. Shantotto II uses the strongest versions of these spells to obliterate enemies from a distance.
• -ga Spells — Area-of-effect versions of elemental spells that hit multiple enemies at once. Firaga, Blizzaga, Thundaga, and similar spells are devastating against groups.
• Magic Burst — When a skillchain happens (weapon skills combining in sequence), Shantotto II can follow up with a matching elemental spell for massively increased damage. This is called a magic burst and is one of the highest sources of damage in FFXI.
• Elemental Seal — A Black Mage ability that guarantees the next spell will not be resisted. She uses this before her biggest nukes to ensure maximum damage.

When to Use Shantotto II

Shantotto II is one of the strongest damage Trusts in the game. Her nukes deal tremendous damage, especially when she lands magic bursts after skillchains. She is fragile though, with low HP and no armor, so she needs a tank to keep enemies off her. Pair her with August (tank) and a healer, and she will melt enemies from the back line. She is an excellent choice for any content where you want fast kills.
