Who is Rahal?

Rahal is the commander of the Royal Knights of San d'Oria and a renowned dragon knight. He plays a significant role in the San d'Oria storyline, where his connection to dragons and his leadership of the kingdom's elite knights make him a figure of great respect. An Elvaan of noble bearing, Rahal fights with the calm precision of a seasoned veteran who has seen countless battles.

Key Abilities

• Cure — White magic that restores HP. Like all Paladin Trusts, Rahal can heal himself during combat, which helps him stay standing when damage gets heavy. Paladins are the only tank job in FFXI with access to healing magic.
• Flash — The cornerstone of Paladin tanking. This spell generates a burst of enmity (threat) that forces the enemy to target Rahal. It also inflicts a brief blind effect on the enemy, causing some of its physical attacks to miss.
• Holy — A light-element damage spell that also builds enmity. This lets Rahal contribute some damage to the fight while reinforcing his hold on the enemy's attention.

When to Use Rahal

Rahal is a straightforward Paladin tank with a clean, simple toolkit. He does not have any standout gimmicks or unique tricks; he just tanks reliably using the core Paladin abilities. His performance is similar to Rughadjeen, giving you another option if you prefer a San d'Orian knight over an Aht Urhgan general.

He is a perfectly serviceable tank for leveling and general content. For harder fights, you will want to graduate to August, who has a much larger HP pool and more defensive tools. Rahal works well paired with any healer Trust and is a fine choice while you are still building your Trust collection.

Tips for New Players

• Rahal and Rughadjeen fill very similar roles. Pick whichever one you get access to first; there is no major difference in performance between them.
• If you started in San d'Oria, you will recognize Rahal from the city's storyline. He is a familiar and trustworthy face to have in your party.
• Do not forget to pair him with a healer. No tank Trust can survive tough fights on self-healing alone.
