Who is Halver?
Halver is a Temple Knight in service to Prince Trion of San d'Oria, one of the three starting nations in FFXI. Loyal and steadfast, he appears throughout the San d'Oria mission storyline as a dependable soldier who puts duty above all else. He is a Hume who embodies the knightly ideals of the Kingdom of San d'Oria, and his combat style reflects that: disciplined, defensive, and reliable.

Key Abilities
- Flash — The standard Paladin enmity spell. It forces the enemy to focus on Halver by generating a large amount of threat. Every Paladin tank uses this as their primary tool for keeping enemies off the rest of the party.
- Cure — White magic healing. Halver can patch himself up during a fight, which is one of the key advantages Paladins have over other tank jobs in FFXI.
- Provoke — From his Warrior sub job, this ability instantly taunts the enemy into attacking him. Having both Flash and Provoke gives Halver two separate tools for grabbing and holding the enemy's attention.
- Shield Bash — Slams his shield into the enemy, dealing a small amount of damage and stunning it briefly. Useful for interrupting enemy spellcasting or dangerous abilities.
- Warrior Offense — Thanks to his Warrior sub job, Halver has access to some offensive abilities that pure Paladin Trusts lack. This gives him slightly more damage output, though he is still primarily a tank.
When to Use Halver
Halver is a decent all-around tank who gets the job done for leveling and mid-tier content. His Paladin/Warrior combination gives him a nice balance of tanking tools and offensive capability. However, he is outclassed by August in nearly every way once you have access to the Seekers of Adoulin Trusts.
Use Halver if you are a San d'Oria player who picks him up early, or if you want a tank with a bit more offensive punch than a pure Paladin. For harder content, you will want to upgrade to August when possible.
Tips for New Players
- Halver is a familiar face if you start in San d'Oria. Picking him up as your first tank is perfectly reasonable for the early game.
- His Warrior sub job means he deals a little more damage than Trusts like Rughadjeen, but it does not make up for the survivability gap compared to August.
- As with all tank Trusts, always pair him with a healer. A tank without healing support will eventually go down, no matter how good their defensive abilities are.
