Who is Rainemard?

Rainemard is a San d'Orian knight from the Crystal War era, the great conflict that took place twenty years before the main game timeline. You meet him during the Wings of the Goddess expansion, which sends you back in time to experience the war firsthand. He is a gallant and devoted Elvaan knight who serves his kingdom with distinction.

Key Abilities

• Enspells (Elemental Weapon Enchantments) — This is Rainemard's specialty. Enspells are buffs that add elemental damage to your melee attacks. For example, "Enfire" adds fire damage to every swing of your weapon, "Enblizzard" adds ice damage, and so on. Each time you hit an enemy with a normal melee attack, the enspell triggers and deals a small amount of extra elemental damage on top of your physical damage. Over the course of a long fight with many hits, this adds up significantly. Enspells are especially powerful for jobs that attack very quickly, like Ninja, Dancer, or Monk, since every single hit procs the extra damage.
• Standard RDM Buffs — Rainemard also casts the usual Red Mage support spells like Haste (attack speed up), Protect (physical defense), and Shell (magic defense), though his focus on enspells means he spends less time on these compared to Koru-Moru.

When to Use Rainemard

Bring Rainemard when your party is melee-heavy and you want to squeeze extra damage out of every physical attack. He pairs well with fast-attacking melee trusts or when you yourself are playing a melee job. His enspells add a layer of damage that other support trusts cannot provide. However, for general-purpose support, Koru-Moru or King of Hearts are stronger picks since Haste, Refresh, and Dispel are more universally useful than enspells. Think of Rainemard as a specialist pick for physical damage parties.
