Melee DD — Samurai
Mildaurion is a character from the Seekers of Adoulin expansion. A skilled samurai warrior, she is known for her role in the colonization efforts of Ulbuka. What makes her special as a trust is not just her damage, but her ability to open skillchains — a critical combat mechanic that can dramatically increase your party's overall damage output.

Skillchains are one of the most powerful mechanics in FFXI. Here is how they work: when one character uses a weapon skill, there is a brief window (about 3-6 seconds) where a second character can use a compatible weapon skill to create a "skillchain." The skillchain produces a burst of bonus elemental damage on top of both weapon skills' damage. Think of it like a combo system — the first weapon skill "opens" the chain, and the second "closes" it. Not all weapon skills are compatible; they need to share specific elemental properties. Mildaurion is designed to be the opener in these combos.
Trade Trust Stones / Gems / Jewels plus the quest item at the upgrade NPC to progress this trust through tiers. Rows show the active bonuses after lower-tier bonuses are included.
| Tier | Unlocks |
|---|---|
| Tier I | Passive: +15 Weapon Skill Damage |
| Tier II | Passive: +30 Weapon Skill Damage |
| Tier III (MAX) | Passive: +60 Weapon Skill Damage, +30 Skillchain Damage |
These are the exact items and extra gates checked by the upgrade NPC. Trust currency is stored on your character, not in inventory.
| Tier | Currency | Trade Item | Extra Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tier I | 5 Trust Stones | 1x Valor Surcoat (PLD AF body; item ID 15093) | None |
| Tier II | 10 Trust Gems | 1x Flamma Zucchetto (Ambuscade head; item ID 25579) | None |
| Tier III (MAX) | 5 Trust Jewels | 1x Almace (Empyrean Sword; item ID 18976) | None |
Use Mildaurion when you want to set up skillchains. She pairs perfectly with Morimar, who is designed to close the skillchains that Mildaurion opens. Together, they create a reliable opener-closer combo that produces consistent skillchain damage. Even without a closer partner, Mildaurion is a solid Samurai DD on her own. But her real value is in that skillchain synergy.
